Engineering Around the World

Unique opportunities to serve the less fortunate exist for structural engineers.  Eric Lehmkuhl will highlight three different projects and how structural engineers were able to make a difference.  First, post disaster response for the 2015 Nepal earthquake will be explained.  Next, the condition assessment and master planning for an existing hospital in Malawi will be discussed.  Finally, photos of a bridge in Nicaragua built by volunteer contractors and engineers will be shown.

Guest Speaker Eric Lehmkuhl with KPFF Consulting Engineers

Eric Lehmkuhl S.E., SECB, Leed AP is a Principal with KPFF Consulting Engineers, a 1300 person-engineering firm with offices throughout the United States.  He has a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of California at San Diego and a Master of Science from San Diego State University and is a licensed structural engineer in California and other states.  He is a past president of SEAOSD and a past chairman of the Seismology Committee SEAOSD.   He has 37 years of structural engineering experience designing all types of structures.   Eric has done disaster response in Haiti, the Philippines, and Nepal.  He has done development work in Albania, Uganda, Malawi, and Chile.
