“Please join the Sustainable Design Committee for a hybrid in-person/virtual presentation on LCA Tools for the structural engineer. The presenter will be virtual, lunch will be provided for in-person attendees.”

Abstract

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is an important consideration on the environmental impact of a structure and several tools exist that integrate with BIM to quantify LCA of a structure. After quantifying LCA, designers can work with Architects and Contractors to investigate options on reducing a structures environmental impact. Luke’s presentation will discuss the importance of LCA for environmental impact, how a designer can obtain a structures LCA, and effective options to reduce the environmental impact. He will also live demonstrate some LCA software!

Speaker

Luke Lombardi, Senior Sustainability Consultant and Structural Engineer - Los Angeles

Luke Lombardi is a bridge-person for sustainability in the built environment. Luke’s background and education as a structural engineer is central to his understanding of materials and construction practices. Luke has become an emerging leader in embodied carbon through actively participating in the SE 2050 program as the Program Mechanics lead and co-leading the local Carbon Leadership Forum (CLF) Hub in Los Angeles since its inception in 2020. As a member of the Buro Happold sustainability team, he conducts life cycle assessment studies and consults to mitigate embodied carbon emissions. He hopes to maximize the potential of both new and existing buildings through innovative design strategies and principles of circularity to specification review and mindful material procurement.
