Speaker Bio: Andrea Chiu is a licensed structural engineer in California with over a decade of design consulting experience. She has collaborated with developers, architects, and contractors to shape the built environment in various sectors, including medical offices, civic centers, schools, and office buildings. As the Los Angeles/Orange County Building Solutions Specialist with Nucor’s Construction Solutions division, Andrea is excited to partner with members in the AEC industry and share Nucor’s portfolio of innovative and sustainable construction solutions. 

Presentation: The building industry is turning more attention to the impact of sustainable choices in design, specifically in embodied carbon. What exactly is embodied carbon, and how do decisions about materials play a role in the environmental impact of the building? Nucor’s presentation will take a closer look at sustainability in steel design through learning about the steel making process, deciphering Environmental Product Declarations, and applying sustainability data to building design.
