Join Emily Freeman, Policy Advisor, Circular Economy for the City of Boulder, and Daniel Kietzer, Director of Sustainability for Rheaply, as they cover key industry trends, case studies including Boulder’s recent deconstruction projects, best practices, and technology solutions that enable scalable deconstruction and reuse in the commercial building sector.

Emily Freeman is a Policy Advisor, Circular Economy for the City of Boulder. She oversees the success of Boulder’s deconstruction ordinance to keep carbon intensive building materials available for reuse and recycling. Through Emily’s efforts, Boulder has diverted 83.5% or over 144,450,000 pounds of building materials from the landfill through reuse and recycling. Boulder’s landmark hospital deconstruction saw 93.5% diversion and the true highlight was the innovative approach to direct structural steel reuse from the hospital into new city construction. Emily continues to lead efforts to identify opportunities for improvement, engage with deconstruction contractors, and drive progress towards the city’s climate goals. Emily is an experienced public and private sector sustainability professional adept at developing sustainability roadmaps, waste audits, managing environmental management systems, and recycling program management. She holds a Masters in Sustainability from Arizona State University. In her down time, Emily enjoys getting outside with her husband, their dog and adventuring with their kid.
Daniel Kietzer, Director of Sustainability, Rheaply: Daniel has over a decade of experience in circular economy and sustainability, consistently driving impactful projects with visionary companies and organizations worldwide. While he is deeply rooted in advancing reuse and recycling markets, Daniel's influence and inspiration spans a broad spectrum of intersectional sustainability topics, including social entrepreneurship, urban planning, water preservation, and carbon reduction strategies. Beyond this, Daniel has a keen interest in software platforms, innovative project and product design, and fostering entrepreneurship that leverages waste materials and by-products.
